Reasons To Become an Extra

An extra is someone that is usually seen in the background of a performance. For example, if you’re watching a film with a pub scene, the people in the pub will often be extras. Unlike actors, they generally are unspoken roles –although this is not always the case, so make sure you keep the acting skills well-polished.

Gain Extra Experience

If you want to become an actor then starting out as an extra is a good idea. When it comes to landing the lead role in a film or performance, the chances are slim – after all, not everyone can be the lead role. If you have experience and are a name known within acting circles this can increase your chances of landing the role you want. By becoming an actor, you get to practice your skills, network within the acting industry and build up your portfolio – great for when you want to take a shot at a bigger, more prominent role.

Learn as You Go

Here at Envisage Casting Agency, we are able to find you work within all sorts of performances – this could be a big-budget film or a small, local theatre performance. This variety in roles means that you are always adapting and learning, which as any well-established actor will tell you, is essential. Often you’ll work alongside big-name actors, so you’ll be able to see how they work and pick up some tips too – a real win-win situation.

It’s Always Different

Working as an extra is unlike any other job because every project is completely different. Whether you’re working on a small indie film or filming a music video, it will all be exciting and different. We work with companies that often have unique needs too, so if you have any particular skills make sure you let us know, as you never know when they might come in useful.
